BDSM to me, has always seemed a more wholesome relationship style. A set of rules and expectations, clear, concise communication. There is no doubt about something being wrong or frustrating, because each problem that arises is discussed and handled. In a vanilla relationship, you'll have no idea where you stand, while in a BDSM relationship with established trust and compromise, you know where you are.
